In 1984 the Canadian Tire Racing team was created. Equipped with the Mit March-Cosworth-Goodyear, the pilot chosen was Canadian Jacques Villeneuve Sr. He's the younger brother of the late Gilles Villeneuve, and uncle to Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 Formula One World Champion. But the results were not good.

But in 1985, surprisingly, Jacques managed a string of excellent results in the middle of the season. Coming in 4th in Cleveland, winning at Road America and coming in 3rd in Mid-Ohio, finishing the year in 8th place in the championship.

At the end of the season Canadian Tire ended the sponsorship and the team closed.
